Judge sets $20,000 bail for man accused of kidnapping son

Geonaldo R. Young, 27, is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and then kidnapping their son.

A Charleston County judge set bail at $20,000 this morning for a man accused of beating his ex-girlfriend and abducting their son, leading to a three-hour Amber Alert on Tuesday.

Warrants charge Geonaldo Young, 27, of North Charleston with kidnapping and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after police say he punched and struck his ex-girlfriend, Johnetta Hamilton, with a plastic baseball bat before taking off with their 2-year-old son.

A female relative returned the child to police about 10 a.m. Young was captured several hours later.

Young told Judge Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley during a bond hearing Wednesday that authorities made the situation sound worse than it is.

“They’re trying to make me look, you know,” he told the judge. “It ain’t like that.”

No one appeared in court either for or against Young.

Ganaway-Pasley set a surety bond of $10,000 on each charge.
