The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association has named Summerville junior Yannick Smith the 2023 Class AAAAA Boys Player of the Year.

Smith led the Green Wave to a region championship, No. 4 ranking among 5A teams and into the third round of the state playoffs. Fellow Summerville junior Melvin Teal was also named to the 5A All-State Team.

Junior Jahlil Hope represents Ashley Ridge on the All-State Team. He led the Swamp Foxes into the second round of the state playoffs. Summerville finished the season with a 24-5 record while Ashley Ridge finished at 17-9.

Other players named to the 5A Boys All-State Team are Cam Scott (Lexington), Aiden Brantley (Conway), Gabe Tooper (Fort Mill), Sean Lindsay (Dorman), Elijah Dates (Goose Creek), Jaquarious Patterson (TL Hanna), Jaxon Prunty (Lexington), Devin Grainger (Conway), Terry Leonard (Dorman), JJ Rembert (Nation Ford), Justin Britt (Goose Creek), West Kellett (Woodmont) and Jordyn McKeen (Cane Bay).

Cane Bay senior Alaina Nettles was named the 5A Girls Player of the Year. She led the Lady Cobras to a co-region championship, 18-9 record and into the second round of the playoffs.

Summerville sophomore Molly Daugherty was also named to the 5A Girls All-State Team. She led the Lady Green Wave to a region championship, No. 4 ranking, 20-6 season and into the third round of the playoffs.

Other players named to the 5A Girls All-State Team are Anaya Muhammad (Woodmont), Dasia Ferguson (Dorman), Chase Thomas (Blythewood), Hillary Offing (Dutch Fork), Rickell Brown (Sumter), Jadein Haynes (R.B. Stall), Trinity Jones (Mauldin), Lindsay Garner (Lexington), Te’Ericka Dowling (Byrnes), Camille Kerridge (Nation Ford), Yasmine Cook (Stratford), Emerie Davis (Carolina Forest), De’Ashaj Crawford (Rock Hill) and JaiDah Liebert (Spring Valley).
