Pinewood swim teams compete at Wilson Hall Invitational

Pinewood teams compete at invitationals

Pinewood Prep golfer Aubrey Merryman is off to a strong start this fall.

The Pinewood Prep swim team placed 10th in the Wilson Hall Invitational held at the Sumter Aquatic Center on Aug. 28.

Mark McGhee led the way for the Pinewood boys, placing second in the 200-yard IM with a 2:30.52 finish and fifth in the 500 freestyle with a 6:11.23 time. He also helped two Pinewood relay teams to Top 10 finishes. He finished eighth in the boys’ individual point standings.

Carson Good placed third in the boys 100 fly with a 1:02.73 time and seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:17.07 time. Will Bilsback placed ninth in the 200 freestyle with a 2:35.83 time. They both also helped two relay teams to Top 10 finishes.

Aislynn MacConnell led the way for the Pinewood girls, placing third in the 200 free with a 2:17.09 time and ninth in the 100 breast with a 1:27.49 time. She also helped two relay teams to Top 10 finishes.

Anna Bilsback placed sixth in the 50 free with a 29.22 time and ninth in the 100 free with a 1:08.19 time. Ari Perry placed eighth in the 200 IM. They both also helped two relay teams to Top 10 finishes.

Girls golf

The Lady Panthers golfers had a strong finish in the scorching heat Aug. 29 at the Charleston Classic Invitational. Junior Aubrey Merryman led the way with rounds of 75 and 77 to place fourth individually in the tournament, which included 13 teams.

Seniors Frances Hester and Lindsay Gilmer, and eighth-grader Skylynn Doby all improved on their Day 1 scores to contribute to Pinewood’s rally.

On Sept. 2, Pinewood fell to Porter-Gaud, 193-186, in a match at Pine Forest. Merryman had a round of 37 to claim her second low-medalist honor of the young season. Hester came in at 43.
