Pinewood Prep sophomore Dalton Bisbano was 8-0 on the mound and one of the Panthers’ top hitters this season.

The Pinewood Baseball team set a new school record for wins this Spring.

The Panthers finished the season with a 23-5 record, capturing a region championship along the way.

“When we started the season we didn’t have a lot of varsity experience so I’d say we over achieved and exceeded expectations,” Pinewood coach Jay Buddin said. “Our guys adjusted well to the speed of varsity baseball.”

Pinewood Prep sophomore Dalton Bisbano was 8-0 on the hill with a 1.90 ERA, 76 strikeouts in 46 innings. Zack Tyler was 4-1 with a save and 56 strikeouts in 42 innings. Closer Tyler Weckesser had 5 saves and 30 strikeouts.

Bisbano hit .448 with 39 hits and 36 RBIs. Will Watson had a .473 batting average, 26 hits and 22 RBIs. Grady Fuller hit .372 with 32 hits.

Bisbano, a College of Charleston commit, has been named the SCISA 4A Region III Player of the Year while Buddin has been named the Region Coach of the Year. With them leading the way, Pinewood Prep went 9-0 in region play.

Other Panther standouts named to the all-region team are Will Watson, Grady Fuller, Zack Tyler, Finley Taylor and Josh Peterson. Representing First Baptist on the all-region team are Henry Cline, Chase Mitchell, Calvin McCombs and Jayden Sadler. Landon O’Brien and Hiott O’Quinn represent Northwood Academy while Sam Teich, Beach Kuhl and Dylan Galloway represent Porter-Gaud.

Pinewood went 2-2 in the playoffs. The Panthers had two wins over Cardinal Newman but lost twice to Hammond, a team Pinewood beat 5-4 during the regular season.

“During the playoffs we had freshmen and sophomores in the first five spots of our lineup and we were still competitive,” Buddin said. “I’m excited about the next year or two.”

Fuller, Taylor, Watson and Bisbano were all selected to participate in the 2023 SCISA North-South All-Star Game.
