Lady Patriots pick up a pair of wins

Moryah Snype is one of four seniors returning to the Fort Dorchester Girls Soccer team this season.

It has been a strong start for the Fort Dorchester Girls Soccer team.

After going 2-1 in this year’s Viking Cup preseason tournament at Spring Valley High School, Fort Dorchester won a pair of regular-season games last week.

The Patriots earned a 6-0 victory over visiting Stratford Feb. 26. Ambrea Hills scored three goals while Moryah Snype, Quinn DeHaven and Lindsey Koch scored one each.

Conrad had assists on three of the goals and Brandi Reilly also had an assist.

“Tonight my girls showed me something,” Fort Dorchester coach Taryn Floyd said. “We lost a lot of our leadership over the last few years, players who had been with the program for a long time, but girls are really stepping up.

Captains Moryah Snype and Zoey Conrad are doing a great job leading the team, keeping that discipline and structure of the program.”

Snype is in her sixth season with the program while Conrad is in her third. Danielle Paulk is also back for her fourth season in goal for Fort Dorchester.

“Mo goes where she is needed,” Floyd said. “She is such a dynamic player. She started the game up top but then I moved her to center-mid and outside-mid. She is a force wherever you put her. Zoey normally plays center-mid. She is kind of the brain of the team.”

The Patriots lost 10 varsity lettermen to graduation in the spring after placing fourth in their super region and being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs with a loss to River Bluff. However, the team has returned eight lettermen, Hills, Snype, Conrad, DeHaven, Paulk, Reilly, Mackenzie Bulleman and Gilli Griffith.

Koch, Alex Bourgeois, Shreena Patel, Ximena Sanchez, Nalini Rumardo, Hannah Daly, McKenna Lewis, Alex Trejo, Melanie Delgado and Jessie Reilly are the new members of the team.

On March 1, the Patriots earned a 9-0 shutout over Cane Bay. Conrad scored three goals while Hills had two. Snype, Sanchez, Bulleman and Reilly also scored.
