Athletes garner all-state softball honors

Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester and Summerville high schools all landed an athlete on the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports 2019 Class AAAAA All-state Softball Team.

Each year the association selects approximately two dozen athletes deemed to be the top players in the state for its 5A All-state Team. Players from all grade levels are eligible for the honor.

Senior pitcher Katie Freeman represents Ashley Ridge on the team. Sophomore shortstop/pitcher Faith Jones represents Fort Dorchester. Junior catcher Mikayla Goodwin represents Summerville. For Freeman, this is her second year being named to the team.

Other Lowcountry players selected include Berkeley’s Jersey Silver and Cane Bay’s Mallena Wright and Smiley Kinloch.

Woodland’s Brianna Wilson was named to the Class AA All-state Softball Team. Also named to the 2A squad were Timberland’s Abigail Prince, Brooke Moody and Gracie Prince. Lowcountry representatives on the Class AAA All-state Softball Team included Hanahan’s Golden Thrower, Ashlyn Cribb and Brooke Vorhis.
