01) Cat Abuse

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) has formally charged an unidentified juvenile with animal cruelty following a Feb. 18 incident that saw the individual reportedly pick up and slam a cat to the ground at 605 Bob O Link Court in the Ladson area.

The violent act circulated through social media platforms, police say, as numerous tips were relayed to the DCSO leading up to the arrest.

A corresponding police incident report states that two suspects were involved in abusing the stray feline.

A nearby resident retrieved the animal and assured local authorities that they would take the battered cat to a veterinarian the following day.

No details were provided on the extent of the cat's injuries.

UPDATE: The dark-furred cat has been identified as Eevee, who was examined at the Sweetgrass Animal Hospital and deemed to be "okay" by the rescue team.

The cat is currently being cared for by a foster parent.
