Fore Paws Golf Tournament tees off Oct. 2

The Summerville Country Club will be the site for the 12th Annual Fore Paws Golf Tournament benefitting Lowcountry Animal Rescue with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Registration for the Sunday afternoon affair takes place at noon, as both teams and individual golfers are invited to compete, with fees ranging from $320 for a group of four to $80 for single entries.

On-course activities include a $5,000 putting contest sponsored by Central Veterinary Hospital and a $10,000 hole-in-one contest.

Beer, soft drinks, snacks and an Awards Ceremony barbeque will be part of the package, as players will be vying for first, second and third-place finishes. In addition, prizes will be available for participants testing their skills in the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin challenges.

Those who can't make it to the tournament, but still wish to contribute to Lowcountry Animal Rescue, can call 843-821-3175 to inquire about donation opportunities.

Lowcountry Animal Rescue comprises a network of foster homes that house 400 abandoned, lost, neglected and abused dogs, cats and other domesticated pets, including an occasional hamster, ferret or guinea pig.

The local rescue service tends to several medical needs and conditions, such as spaying, neutering, administering injections and microchipping every critter receiving care. 

Animals are available through weekly Adopt-A-Thons and the organization's website. Cats are up for adoption seven days a week Petco locations In Summerville and Rivers Avenue.
