Dorchester County to Hold an Open House for New Solicitor’s Office

On Friday, residents are invited to tour the new Dorchester County First Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s office located at 101 Ridge Street in St. George from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The office is located on the second floor of the Dorchester County Offices Annex, the site of the former Dorchester County Courthouse.

In June 2019, Dorchester County Council, in conjunction with the Solicitor’s Office, opted to not renew the lease of the current office located in Summerville as the lease for the current space would double upon renewal in Jan. 2020. In lieu of renewing the lease for the increased rent, the decision was made to relocate the Solicitor’s Office to the Offices Annex in St. George. By doing so, Dorchester County will save approximately $150,000, annually.

The Dorchester County Facilities Department coordinated the four-month-long renovation of the 8,500 square foot office space. Renovations included asbestos abatement, installing a new HVAC system, ceiling grids, paint, lighting, flooring, and doors. The cost of these renovations totaled $225,000 and the offices should serve the Solicitor’s Office well on a ten-year horizon.

Media Advisory: Prior to the open house a short ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:00 AM in the second-floor lobby. The ribbon cutting will include brief remarks from County Council Chairman, George Bailey and First Judicial Circuit Solicitor, David Pascoe. Due to space and capacity constraints the ribbon cutting is not open to the general public.

All media outlets who plan to be in attendance shall notify Craig Lloyd, Communications Coordinator for Dorchester County prior to arriving. Contact Information is provided above.
