An assistant principal at James Island Charter High School was arrested Monday night on Rifle Range Road in Mount Pleasant and charged with driving under the influence.

An officer reported that he observed an automobile driving erratically about 11:30 p.m. near Six Mile Road and stopped the white BMW, a police report said. It said the driver smelled of alcohol, her speech was slurred, she could not properly recite the alphabet and could not maintain her balance during a walking test.

Maureen Jessup, 52, of Mount Pleasant is charged with driving under the influence, the report said. She was released on a personal recognizance bond, the Charleston County Detention Center said.
