I-26 now open to traffic after morning tractor-trailer accident

Traffic flow has been restored on westbound Interstate 26 after an accident shut down the freeway for about three hours. An 18-wheeler crashed on westbound Interstate 26 near the Mark Clark Expressway this morning, blocking all three lanes of traffic.

The driver suffered minor injuries when the truck spilled its load around 9 a.m., said Maj. John Clark of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

The lanes of the Mark Clark that merge onto I-26 west also were at a standstill. The Highway Patrol and North Charleston emergency authorities also were on the scene.
