ORANGEBURG — More than a dozen hostages were rescued safely after a bank robbery attempt in Orangeburg.

Police were called to a South Carolina Bank and Trust branch late Tuesday afternoon on a report that a man was trying to rob the bank and was holding about 15 people hostage.

Police say three people suffered minor injuries, including the suspect.

Public Safety Department Capt. Mike Adams says officers rushed the building about 45 minutes after the standoff began and took the suspect into custody.

His name has not been released.

One bank employee and one police officer also suffered minor injuries.
