S.P.F. (skin, party, fashion) at spa

The pool-side fashion show Thursday will feature a few of Charleston's style icons, including designers, stylists and trendsetters with wares provided by Everything But Water and Tommy Bahama.

In what has grown to be the Charleston area's largest melanoma awareness event, The Spa at Belmond Charleston Place will host it's annual S.P.F. (which stands for skin, party and fashion) event, by its pool 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Tickets are $40 in advance at CharlestonPlaceSpa.com/Reflect or $50 at the door. All proceeds benefit the "I Will Reflect" Melanoma Awareness and Prevention initiative between the spa and the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation, which funds skin cancer research.

Since the event's inception as part of Melanoma Awareness Month in May 2008, it has raised $40,000 from the event, signature spa facials and sales of "I Will Reflect" photo-sensitive bracelets.

The event, part cocktail party, part fashion show and its success in raising awareness of skin cancer, received a 2013 International Spa Association Innovate Award, which is awarded to spas for pioneering ideas in the industry.

On Thursday, attendees will be treated to specialty cocktails and food from the lauded Charleston Grill and view a pool-side runway fashion show, featuring a few of Charleston's style icons including designers, stylists and trendsetters with wares provided by Everything But Water and Tommy Bahama.
