HANAHAN — Temporary traffic detours are planned by officials preparing for holiday events in Hanahan.

Yeamans Hall Road, in front of the Hanahan Municipal Complex, will be closed Friday for the annual Christmas tree lighting, beginning at about 4 p.m.

Westbound traffic on Yeamans Hall Road will be detoured down Robinson Street. Eastbound traffic will be routed down Carolyn Street or Loftis Road. Motorists are encouraged to avoid this area for casual travel, officials said.

On Saturday, police will divert traffic for the annual Hanahan Exchange Club Christmas Parade, set to begin at 10 a.m. and be completed around noon.

The parade will begin at Hanahan High School, travel south on Murray Drive to Belvedere Drive, and continue on Loftis Road. After turning east onto Yeamans Hall Road, the parade will head to the intersection at Murray Drive. The parade then turns north and returns to the high school.

Police will begin detouring motorists from Murray Drive, in front of the school, as early as 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Southbound motorists will be directed to Brookside Drive or Bishop Road, and northbound motorists will be sent to Lepley Road or Belvedere Court.

Auxiliary streets will remain open until the parade approaches, however, traffic may be altered to accommodate safety issues, authorities said.
