COLUMBIA — White House hopeful Newt Gingrich plans to stay overnight at the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion next week.
Gov. Nikki Haley’s spokesman Rob Godfrey confirmed Monday that Gingrich will stay at the mansion Oct. 4.
Gingrich will be in South Carolina with his wife for a screening of his documentary “A City Upon A Hill.”
Haley has said the mansion is open for overnight stays by presidential hopefuls.
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann has stayed twice. Godfrey says more candidates are expected to stay.
State Ethics Commission Executive Director Herb Hayden has said overnight stays by presidential hopefuls do not violate state law.
