The latest data from the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce showed 540,545 total claims in the past 10 weeks. In the week ending May 23, 24,950 people filed for unemployment, a decrease by nearly 4,500 from the previous week.
Georgetown County didn't have much as only 331 people filed as of May 23, down nearly 10 from the previous week. Horry County saw a slight decrease as 1,847 new claims were filed but the county is still ranked in the top five counties in the most claims.
Across the country, nearly 2.1 million people filed for unemployment last week with the national total at nearly 41 million since March.
