Georgetown County asking recreational boaters to join the search for missing Pawleys Island man

Carter Weaver, Sheriff of Georgetown County, is asking recreational boaters to report anything that looks unusual in the waterways around Georgetown as the search for a missing Pawleys Island man reaches its 12th day.

Jimmy McCants, 84, of Pawleys Island was reported missing on Monday, March 9. His vehicle was found on the side of U.S. 17 between the bridges north of Georgetown.

Boat crews from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and Midway Fire Rescue searched the water and shorelines of the Black, Pee Dee and Waccamaw rivers and Winyah Bay today. Sonar scans and dive teams were also employed. An airplane from DNR and a helicopter from the State Law Enforcement Division were used to search inaccessible areas.

Anyone with information about Mr. McCants is being asked to call the sheriff’s office at (843) 546-5102 at any time.

The investigation into his disappearance is ongoing.
