Surfside Beach resident crowned winner of annual toilet paper wedding dress contest

A design by Mimoza Haska from Surfside Beach was named the winner of the 15th Annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest Sept. 30 in New York City.

Mimoza Haska from Surfside Beach was recently crowned the winner of the 15th Annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest Presented by Charm Weddings and Quilted Northern.

Haska beat out more than 1,500 entries and took home the $10,000 grand prize.

The competition featured the top 12 designs crafted out of nothing more than Quilted Northern bath tissue and tape, glue or needle and thread to create detailed wedding gowns and accessories.

The fashion show finale event was aired on national television Sept. 30 from New York City, where each of the top 12 finalists had their marital designs evaluated by a panel of judges, including Monte Durham of “Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta,” Jeremiah Brent of “Nate and Jeremiah by Design” and Zanna Roberts Rassi, Fashion Editor at Large for Marie Claire. It was hosted by Paige Davis of television’s “Trading Spaces.”

Haska, 42, lives in Surfside Beach but is originally from Albania. She moved to the United States at the age of 21.

She is married with two boys and is a beautician by trade currently working to open her own salon. This is her seventh time entering the competition, finishing in the top 10 each time.

Haska also won back in 2013.

This year, contestants entered within three categories, including Traditional, Modern and Cultural. At the runway show, a winner was chosen from each category with the judges determining first, second and third place overall. began the annual contest 15 years ago based on the popular bridal shower game. As the contest has grown in popularity, so has the number of entries and level of competition each year.

The second place winner was Donna Vincler of Brentwood, Tennessee and she received a check for $5,000. Third place winner Susan Nicholson of Kennesaw, Georgie received $2,500.
