Guns, drugs and money found when homes searched

Three men were arrested Thursday when the Charleston police Special Investigations Unit, SWAT Team and team units searched homes on the peninsula and found a rifle, five handguns, a shotgun, cocaine, marijuana, heroin and cash, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Police at 33 Athens Court found five handguns -- one with an obliterated serial number -- a rifle, a shotgun, a gram of heroin, a gram of cocaine and almost $100 in cash. Marvin Jerome Brown, 55, of 33 Athens Court is charged with possession of cocaine base, possession of heroin and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Brown is being held at Cannon Detention Center on $275,000 bond, Francis said.

At 18 Grove St., police seized 16.5 grams of cocaine, 1.1 grams of heroin and more than $3,100 in cash. Police charged Xavier Williams, 31, of 18 Grove Street with trafficking cocaine, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute in proximity of a school, Francis said.

He said Williams is on federal probation for a weapon's charge and was out on bail for two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute in proximity of a school. His new bail was set at $110,000.

At 16 Grove St., officers confiscated 50 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of heroin, 76 grams of marijuana and $1,700 in cash. Omar Gentile, 38, of that address is charged with trafficking heroin and possession of heroin with the intent to distribute in proximity of a school. His bail was set at $550,000, Francis said.

Francis said warrants were issued charging Maurice Gentile, 44, of 16 Grove Street, who was not home, with trafficking cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute in proximity of a school, and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
