After being on various Midlands radio stations over their first three seasons, the Columbia Fireflies baseball team will broadcast its games exclusively on the internet in 2019.
The team announced Thursday that the games can be heard on the team's website, through the Tune In app, and at the websites of the radio stations owned by Alpha Media (The Big DM, Hot 103, Q93, The Fox, Rock 99.7 and The Palm).
The Fireflies, a Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, begin their 2019 season Thursday night with a home game against the Charleston RiverDogs at Segra Park. All of this year's web broadcasts will begin with a pregame show that starts 15 minutes before first pitch.
This will be the fourth season for the Fireflies in Columbia, and the team's broadcast situation has been different each year.
During its 2016 season, games were carried on WCGV 620 AM and 105.1 FM, and in the 2017 season they were broadcast on ESPN Columbia 94.9 FM and 1230 AM. In 2018, the team's games were carried on FOX Sports 1400 AM.
Kevin Fitzgerald will once again be behind the microphone for Columbia, and Patrick DeMarre has joined the broadcast team this season. We're hoping for some of Harry-and-Monte type chemistry in the booth.
