Columbia’s got crabs again. Soft shell season has descended upon the city, and longtime favorites like Mr. Friendly’s and Cellar on Greene have options, as does Hunter-Gatherer’s Main Street location. Newcomers and beef connoisseurs Halls Chophouse are going crab crazy, too. Check out the specials we’ve rounded thus far. These un-molted, easy-to-eat crabs are subject to availability, especially as the weather gets warmer, so act fast if you have your heart set on getting crabs this year.

Cellar on Greene has them hot and crispy for those who want the crabbiness to shine through.

Halls Chophouse puts their crispy soft shell crabs on a bun and beside some fries.

Hunter Gatherer Brewery & Alehouse on Main has a slew of specials featuring soft shell crabs that are subject to change.

Mr. Friendly’s has crabs available on a po' boy sandwich, on a plate filled with grits & vegetables, or over a big salad.

Motor Supply Co. Bistro has served soft shells over green garlic, local asparagus, blistered tomatoes, Meadow Creek mushrooms, and crab-citrus slaw, with forthcoming iterations that are subject to change as their daily menu does.

Solstice Kitchen has crispy McClellanville soft shell crabs over a salad consisting of asparagus, cucumber, grape tomatoes, egg, radish, romaine, and Thousand Island dressing.

Spotted Salamander is serving up soft shell crab sandwiches as long as the short-lived season for the sea creatures lasts.
