Two fairly recent additions to the Columbia restaurant scene have already closed — Bayleaf Eclectic Indian Cuisine and the Local Yocal.
Bayleaf opened in late November at 530 Lady St. in the former M Grille space and served modern Indian food fused with traditional Indian cooking methods. Their voicemail states that they are closed until further notice due to a major water leak inside the building.
The Local Yocal, a highly anticipated bodega style store for downtown residents at 1712 Main St., opened in late September. The store had a broad range of things on offer: a small selection of to-go coffees and teas, a beer and wine bar, takeout food options, catering options, a small selection of local grocery items, and crafts and gifts by local artisans as well. There is now a for lease sign on the property and their phone number has been disconnected. Efforts by Free Times to contact the owners have been unsuccessful.
