what: 2016 Tiamo Red Wine
ABV: 12.75 percent
where: Earth Fare
Camping, canoe trips, moving — it’s times like these one gets to test the portable wine offerings on the market. Tiamo’s can of organic red wine is honestly the best I’ve had, fresher and more intriguing than any box, and the perfect size to boot: The can is a regular 12 ounces, so basically two and a half glasses’ worth of wine.
This red blend, made from organic grapes, is Italian and accordingly low key. Made from Montepulciano, Nero d’Avola and Syrah grapes, it’s pleasing acidic, with just the merest hint of effervescence and a light to medium body. The flavor is unmemorable in a good way, ripe with red berries but not too jammy. It’s a dry red that could go with anything, from trout cooked over a campfire to Chinese takeout.
You could drink it out if the can but it’ll probably taste better if you pour it into a Thermos lid or a plastic cup or something.
