This Southern California Brewery has made its reputation and fortune on big, bold, hop-centric beers, and Idolatrous IPA fits easily into that mold. This is a limited release in the brewery’s whimsical “Hop Worship” series.

As of this writing, the cans of this beer available in Columbia were packaged on May 31, and this freshness is evident in its fragrant hop aroma and flavor. The bright aroma features mango, pineapple and other tropical notes from this beer’s cocktail of hops. The beer is fairly clear, light gold in color and creates a short collar of foam when poured.

The flavor is complex and intense as you should expect from any beer that calls itself an India Pale Ale (IPA). Mango, tropical flavors with hints of lemon, pineapple and maybe some peach make up the flavor impression. The initial taste sensation is mildly sweet, quickly fading to a mild but long-lasting bitterness on the finish. On the palate, this beer seems full and thick due to the resins from the vast amount of hops used in making it. This is another tasty and well-crafted beer from Stone and will satisfy any hop lover.
