2017 Julien Sunier Wild Soul Beaujolais Villages

cost: $22.65

ABV: 12.5 percent

where: Rosewood Market

More than $20 for a bottle of wine is a lot of money, but I’ve come to trust Rosewood Market’s small and well-curated collection of wines. Faced with a cold, wet weekend, and seeing the confidence-inspiring words “Imported by Advintage Distributing, Ladson, SC” on a wine made from what might be my favorite grape, I decided to make room in the budget.

I’m glad I did. Made with 100 percent gamay, this wine is made with minimal intervention. With its spicy aroma — mint, lavender, pine, touches of funkiness —and nice balanced blackberry and honey flavors, it’s satisfyingly complex. With its medium body and delicate acidity, it’s great with lighter food. And above all, it tastes alive and fresh, effectively chasing away the weather-inspired blues.
