Airplane at airport

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is getting a little more expansive in its food and drink offerings — welcome news for travelers to and from the airport. Red Eye Express Coffee opened on Monday, March 18, as the first participant in the COLA Program.

The COLA Program, or Community Opportunity Leasing Agreement Program is designed to extend more retail and food product offerings to travelers who fly through CAE. The program is a short-term, low-risk opportunity for local small businesses to test out their products and services to the 1.1 million annual passengers that pass through the airport. The kiosks are leased in six-month increments.

Red Eye Express Coffee is owned by Tim Smaha, Adam Heirs, Lisa Matthews and Stan Matthews. This kiosk uses local products like coffee beans from Irmo’s Loveland Coffee and tea from Charleston Tea Plantation, and will have a daily selection of pastries from Crust Bakehouse. In addition to regular coffee, the kiosk will feature coffee and espresso creations like the brown sugar cinnamon latte, created by their head barista, Amanda Eduy.
