Barbecue plate at the War Mouth, $13

The War Mouth plans to open a takeout barbecue window to serve walk-up and drive-up customers on the North Main corridor.

The restaurant — which is equal parts hip bar, barbecue joint and upscale Southern eatery — opened in Cottontown in December 2015.

The new project, called Li'l War Mouth BBQ-To-Go, will occupy a former used car lot next to the War Mouth's Franklin Street address, facing Main Street. War Mouth co-owner and pitmaster Porter Barron Jr. says the new property will be used for overflow parking, with a little office and walk-up barbecue window, and a few picnic tables. There'll be a walkway between the War Mouth and the new property.

The takeout window will probably serve barbecue by the pound, hash by the pint and hot dogs, Barron says, for takeout or eating on the premises.

"It's definitely going to be a bit more affordable and more accessible, I think," Barron says.

The new facility will probably open in a few months, he says.
