The South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association will be holding a second Restaurant Week this year, but only for the greater Columbia area, on Oct. 13-23.
After requests from its member restaurants to find a way to help with food sales while the State Fair is in town — usually a slow time for the food service industry in the Midlands — the association has decided to hold an autumn restaurant week.
However, says Katie Montgomery, the communications director for the association, “We aren’t trying to compete with the fair by any means; this is something our restaurateurs have wanted to do for a while.”
More than 20 restaurants will be offering lunch and dinner specials, most of them a multi-course prix fixe menu that allows diners to get a taste of the restaurant’s offerings at a special price. Participating restaurants and menu options are being updated on the Restaurant Week website.
The statewide Restaurant Week will still be held in the traditionally slow season for dining out, occurring Jan. 12-22, 2017.
