Winter might be coming, but City Roots is gearing up to launch a weekly onsite farmers market beginning Thursday, Oct. 20. The market will take place from 4-7 p.m. and will feature a selection of local products that include organic produce and mushrooms grown at City Roots, plus pasture-raised meats, free-range eggs, artisan breads, dairy products, honey and craft beer and wine.
Besides City Roots, participating vendors include Wil-Moore Farms, Happy Cow Creamery, Congaree Milling Company, Sassafrass Bee and Honey Farm, Heather’s Artisan Bakery, Trail Ridge, Farm and Dairy, and Gin’s Juice.
For the initial market, Farm to Table Event Co.’s chef Drew Thompson will be picking ingredients from the farm to turn into delicious bites that can be purchased. There'll also be a beer tasting by River Rat Brewery, and wine, and a guided farm tour at 5:30 will showcase some local offerings.
City Roots farm manager and co-owner Eric McClam says he hopes that the market will keep up enough momentum to go throughout the winter and back into the warmer months, providing people with another way to interact with the farm.
City Roots is located at 1005 Airport Boulevard in Columbia.
