Charleston County authorities say they suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found in a West Ashley ditch on Saturday but aren't releasing the cause of death because it could interfere with the investigation.

A witness cutting grass found the body of Joseph Nathaniel Hymes lying face-down in a ditch near 1715 Pineview Road about 3 p.m. Saturday, according to an incident report released on Monday.

Charleston County Sheriff's Capt. Jim Brady said foul play is suspected but that investigators have not identified a motive or suspects.

Both he and the Charleston County Coroner's Office have declined to say how Hymes died because it could interfere with the investigation, Brady said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
