GREENVILLE — A former executive with HomeGold convicted in the largest bankruptcy in South Carolina has been released from prison after serving 15 months of her 30-month sentence.

The Greenville News reported Thursday that Karen Miller was released early based on credit for working in prison as a chaplain assistant and custodian helper.

Miller pleaded guilty to conspiracy in the 2003 collapse of HomeGold Financial Inc. and its subsidiary Carolina Investors. About 8,000 investors lost $275 million when the companies went under.

In all, six former HomeGold or Carolina Investors officers were convicted of various crimes and sentenced to prison.
