1 1/2 cups water
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup cranberry juice cocktail
3 inches cinnamon stick
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 pears, peeled, halved and cored or peeled and left whole
In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, cranberry juice, cinnamon and vanilla. Bring to a boil; add pears.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 15 minutes or until pears are tender. Remove cinnamon. Serve warm or chilled; spoon poaching liquid over each portion.
