Khalil Davis of Charleston Collegiate is the boys basketball player of the year in SCISA Region I-AA.

Jay Godbolt of Charleston Collegiate is coach of the year.

Brielle Jungblut of Thomas Heyward Academy is the girls player of the year in SCISA Region I-AA.

Tanneyhill named coach

Former South Carolina quarterback Steve Tanneyhill, who led the Gameocks to their first bowl victory, has been named head football coach at Union County.

Tanneyhill has been the coach at Chesterfield High School since 2005. He led the Rams to three state championships and a runner-up finish.

Post 166 tourney

The Goose Creek American Legion Post 166 baseball tournament will begin Feb. 24 at Goose Creek and Berkeley high schools. The other playing dates are Feb. 27 and 29, and the championship is slated for March 3.

First-round games at Goose Creek include Academic Magnet vs. Goose Creek, and Colleton County vs. Cane Bay. Games at Berkeley include Woodland vs. Pinewood, and Timberland vs. Berkeley.

Reese steps down

Valerie Reese has resigned as the girls basketball coach at Fort Dorchester. She coached for four seasons. The Patriots were 3-17 in the just-completed campaign, including 1-7 in Region 8-AAAA play. She had a 23-57 record at Fort Dorchester.

West Ashley jamboree

West Ashley will host a baseball jamboree today and Saturday.

Hanahan plays West Ashley at 5:30 p.m. today and Cane Bay plays Wando at 6:30 p.m. Stratford plays Academic Magnet at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Summerville plays Northwood Academy at 10 a.m., Colleton County takes on First Baptist at 11 a.m. and Ashley Ridge's junior varsity plays West Ashley's junior varsity at noon.
