Charleston’s restaurant scene is getting a lot of attention these days. Local chefs are popping up in national newspapers and magazines and on food TV like daily specials.

Which got us to wondering, how is eating out in Charleston different today from 20, 30 or even 50 years ago? What items were on the menus then compared with what we see in 2011?

We’re particularly interested in looking at old menus, say from Perdita’s, the Ladson House, Everett’s, the Colony House or many others. You might have one stashed away in a collection of memorabilia that you would be willing to share for an upcoming story. We can borrow, copy or photograph the menu. At any rate, it will be returned to you intact.

We’re also interested in hearing about your favorite dishes from those old restaurants.

If you have an old menu, a story to tell (please be brief) or both, send emails with the subject line “Old Menus” to food@postandcourier.com or by mail to Teresa Taylor, The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. The deadline is Friday.
