Restaurants which took advantage of slow winter traffic to shut down for employee parties and renovations are springing back into action for the first busy weekend of the year.
“We have finished the interior work at the Middleton Place Restaurant,” spokesperson Stephen Reed e-mailed this week; the restaurant reopened on Thursday with a new winter menu. (Good news for female patrons: The interior work involved the women’s bathrooms.)
“Valentine’s Day weekend is always a special time for Middleton Place Restaurant,” Food and Beverage director Micah Garrison is quoted as saying in a press release, which cites the restaurant’s appearance on an OpenTable list of the nation’s 100 most romantic restaurants.
While Valentine’s falls on a Sunday this year, Middleton Place Restaurant -- like many restaurant eager to make up for lost time -- is encouraging diners to consider getting their celebrations started sooner by booking a table on Saturday night.
There isn’t a special Valentine’s Day menu planned at Middleton, but dishes from the standard menu, including peanut soup; duck confit with foie gras emulsion and braised short rib with bourbon-creamed spinach, are bound to look aphrodisiacal by candlelight.
