Parker Milner has been named food editor of The Post and Courier.

Milner joined the staff Oct. 4 after leading the Charleston City Paper’s food section for a year and a half. He succeeds Hanna Raskin.

"This is a very important position for The Post and Courier and for this city," said Executive Editor Autumn Phillips. "We conducted a national search to fill it, but in the end chose to hire someone who has been living and working here and understands how much food means to us in Charleston."

Milner, a Pittsburgh native and Boston College graduate, started his journalism career in Charleston after a seven-year professional hockey career. He spent four years playing in the Washington Capitals organization as a member of the South Carolina Stingrays from 2016-2020.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to join The Post and Courier newsroom and work with colleagues who are deeply committed to investigative journalism,” Milner said. “I plan to hold The Post and Courier’s Food & Dining section to the newsroom’s high standards.”

Upon arriving in Charleston, Milner immersed himself in the restaurant scene, writing for Eater Carolinas, Charleston Magazine and other area publications. For The Post and Courier, he will focus on providing all-encompassing coverage of the food and beverage industry, including restaurants, chefs, farmers, breweries, coffee shops, distilleries and food markets.

“Moving to the Charleston area with an unbiased viewpoint has allowed me to develop my perspective over the past five years," he said. "I have become enthralled with the aspects of the local food and beverage industry that Charleston should be proud of, but I realize the importance of shining a light on its shortcomings, many of which have been exacerbated by the pandemic.”

Milner looks forward to engaging with The Post and Courier's readers. To reach him, send an email to pmilner@postandcourier.com or join the Post and Courier Food group on Facebook
