Diners whose Sunday morning tastes lean sophisticated will no doubt welcome this weekend’s addition of two upscale restaurants to the local brunch lineup.
Opal and The Drawing Room both plan to inaugurate brunch service this Sunday. Opal’s menu will be available from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., while The Drawing Room’s meal will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (The Vendue restaurant’s Facebook page helpfully suggests that patrons may wish to follow up their meals with a rooftop cocktail.)
At Opal, the new menu includes poached eggs with prosciutto; baked eggs with mozzarella, tomato and chorizo; steak with a poached egg; salmon with a fried egg; confit pork hash with a poached egg and a smoked duck ham omelet. Non-egg options include a burger, a waffle and shrimp-and-polenta. In addition to bloody Marys, the Mt. Pleasant restaurant is serving Caesars, the preferred boozy breakfast beverage in Canada. The Drawing Room’s menu features buttermilk-fried quail; crab benedict and lowcountry quiche. Among the globally-inspired choices are tortilla paisana; croque madame and buttered crab-and-caviar blini. There’s also a dish called “textures of asparagus,” described as a goat-milk panna cotta with grapefruit, almond, parsley and a brown butter crumble.
