Its name is supposed to make you think of California, but Napa Mount Pleasant comes from Charlotte, where the restaurant four years ago opened its first location.

Napa’s second outlet has inherited the original restaurant’s affection for New World wine, fresh ingredients and earth tones.

“Walking into Napa on Providence feels a lot like stepping into the pages of a Pottery Barn catalogue,” Charlotte Magazine reported in 2013. Since then, the restaurant has given up most of its Asian-leaning dishes and racked up a cumulative four-star rating on Yelp. “Unbelievable,” a recent customer raved after dining on tuna tartare, beef carpaccio and grilled salmon.

Other dishes offered at the Mount Pleasant location include pizzas, salads and pastas. The wholly Californian wine list (save for one Italian prosecco) features well-known producers, ranging from a $38 bottle of Chalk Hill sauvignon blanc to a $499 bottle of Paul Hobbs cabernet.

And if all goes according to plan, the restaurant should get loud as Towne Centre shoppers discover the mall’s newest resident. “The final component of our ambiance is light modern Jazz and an energetic noise level,” Napa Mount Pleasant’s website says.

Located at 1324 Theater Drive, Napa Mount Pleasant is open Monday-Thursday, 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday, 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. For more information, visit napamtpleasant.com or call 843-900-6277.
