Flavored meringue is just one of the sweets offered.

For eaters looking to shake the rust from their college French, the French-speaking staffers at Cafe Framboise are happy to carry on a conversation in their native language. But the new downtown cafe is equally accessible to eaters whose vocabulary runs from “croque monsieur” to “macaron.”

Dominique and Florence Chantepie, who last year partnered with friends to open Saveurs du Monde in Mount Pleasant, opened their own restaurant in March at 159 Market St.

Like Saveurs du Monde, Cafe Framboise serves homemade croissants, crepes and quiches, as well as salads, soups and a full menu of pastries. Trained in Paris, Dominique Chantepie worked as a pastry chef in Montreal before opening cafes in California.

Cafe Framboise is open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. It’s closed Sundays. For more information, call 414-7241, or visit
