When chef Brett McKee was at the height of his local fame, he was notorious for behavior that didn't square with most people's notions of a quiet bridal luncheon. But the self-described family man is now throwing himself into the private party business, opening McKee's in conjunction with 139-B Events.
A press release describes the venue on Market Street, where chef Bob Waggoner also recently resurfaced, as “a new alternative to host cocktail parties, rehearsal dinners, cooking classes, private dinners and fundraising events.” The three-story structure can accommodate as few as 10 and as many as 200 people; clients can call on McKee's kitchen skills or hire an outside caterer.
Plans for the venue include a private dining club. Although details of the program are still being sketched out, members will be entitled to attend a certain number of food and social events throughout the year.
