After spending nearly two decades in the baking business, Jaclyn Story has opened her own pastry shop.
Story started her career at Hall Bakery, and worked at Kaminsky's and Normandy Farms before spending seven years at Michelangelo's Kitchen as its wedding cake specialist. At Gala Desserts in Avondale, she's continuing to make cakes for weddings and other special occasions, but is also offering cheesecakes, cupcakes, cream puffs, cake pops and cake truffles.
The beverage list includes wines, beers, cocktails and coffee drinks designed to pair with the seasonal desserts.
"I wanted to create an ethereal environment for people to really relax and enjoy," Story says.
Located at 829 Savannah Highway, Gala Desserts opens at 2 p.m. on Wednesday-Saturday. Closing hours aren't scheduled, but Story plans to keep the shop open until midnight on weekend nights. For more information, call 212-3227 or visit galadesserts.com.
