Ambrose Campbell says he visits his native Jamaica “every chance I get,” but for eaters who don’t often get that chance, he’s serving an extensive island menu at Caribbean Delight.
Campbell’s new North Charleston restaurant is serving dishes including brown stew fish; oxtails; bammy, or cassava flatbread; and roast breadfruit, as well as callaloo and codfish, plated with green bananas, yams and dumplings.
He says the jerk chicken and curried goat have been especially popular thus far.
Caribbean Delight is Campbell’s sixth restaurant: He previously ran restaurants in Georgia and Florida.
In addition to prepared dishes, Campbell sells various Caribbean seasonings. “We not halfway stepping,” he says.
The restaurant at 3309 Rivers Ave. is open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
