Despite its name, the lead-up process to opening Screen Door on the site of the former Lucky's wasn't exactly transparent: Fans of chef Blake Joyal, late of Palace Hotel, had to rely on his Instagram feed for pictures of kitchen equipment that hinted at what he planned to serve.
Now that the James Island restaurant is welcoming customers, there still isn't a menu posted online. But Screen Door is reportedly offering fashionable wood-fired pizzas, salads, chicken and steak. Perhaps the restaurant isn't getting bogged down in specifics because it wants to suggest the real draw is Joyal, a veteran of the New York City restaurant scene who earned four stars from The Post and Courier during his brief Palace Hotel stay.
Screen Door, 1271 Folly Road, is open Tuesday-Sunday, 5-10 p.m. For more information, call 573-7200 or visit screendoorcharleston.com.
