Monday celebrations at Proof, Edmund’s Oast

Admittedly, Monday’s festivities at Proof and Edmund’s Oast have nothing to do with Franklin Pierce, Millard Fillmore or Warren G. Harding. But if you’re looking to cap off President’s Day with an edible celebration, both venues have excellent options planned:

• In advance of Fat Tuesday, chef BJ Dennis will be at Proof serving red beans and rice, coconut milk collards (previously featured in The Post and Courier food section) and shrimp etoufee. The King Street bar is also offering $5 hurricanes; Quentin Baxter and Charlton Singleton’s jazz band will provide the musical accompaniment. The party starts at 5 p.m.

• To mark its first anniversary, Edmund’s Oast is discounting a few of its most popular items. Pickled shrimp, fresh ricotta, Red Wedding cocktails and bottled wine will be sold at half-price. “We are so thankful for the support and response we’ve gotten from locals and tourists alike,” Edmund’s co-owner Scott Shor is quoted as saying in a release announcing the promotion. (It’s worth saying again: Leftover pickled shrimp from Edmund’s Oast makes a stellar breakfast the next day.)
