Get your kitchen knife (or knives) professionally sharpened and help bring Thanksgiving dinner to someone’s table.
That’s the plan for the Coastal Cupboard’s semi-annual Charity Knife Sharpening Event, which takes place Friday through Sunday at the store in Mount Pleasant’s Belle Hall Shopping Center.
The store will sharpen straight-edge knives (no serrated) for $1 apiece, with all proceeds benefiting The Charleston Basket Brigade. The local nonprofit organization’s mission is to provide local families with warm meals at Thanksgiving, including a 10- to 12-pound turkey with traditional sides, rolls and pumpkin pie.
Coastal Cupboard is doubling the number of its sharpening stations to accommodate the crowd for this popular event. It also is offering free gourmet food tastings, a charity raffle booth and more during the event.
“We are also so thrilled to raise money for The Charleston Basket Brigade,” said store owner Brad Pitner. “Every dollar raised at our event goes to buy food to feed families in need for Thanksgiving that otherwise would not have a meal to eat that day.”
The Charleston Basket Brigade has set a goal to raise $100,000 to feed 3,333 families (approximately 20,000 residents) at Thanksgiving.
“It’s businesses like this in the community that really make a difference,” said Pam Hartley, co-founder of The Charleston Basket Brigade.
The store’s last charity knife-sharpening event, held in June, raised more than $4,500 for the Lowcountry Food Bank.
