YORK — Five South Carolina residents have pleaded guilty to charges in the attempted robbery and shooting death of a North Carolina man.

Prosecutors in York said Monday that 19-year-old Montez Laverry Rutledge of Fort Mill was sentenced to 33 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to murder, kidnapping and attempted armed robbery.

Twenty-one-year-old Chance Pate of Charlotte, N.C., was shot to death in Rock Hill on July 20.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported (http://bit.ly/xfzaTf) four other people pleaded guilty to charges that included kidnapping and attempted armed robbery and accessory before the fact of armed robbery. They were sentenced to prison terms ranging from five to 25 years in prison.

Pate was found in an abandoned vehicle and was taken to a hospital where he died.
