It's only April, but it's time to start planning holiday menus if you're considering a free-range turkey.
Keegan-Filion Farm in Walterboro is nearing its deadline to place an order with the hatchery for turkeys it will have raised and ready by Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Annie Filion says a lot of people interested in buying turkeys call the farm in November, but it's too late by then. All of Keegan-Filion's turkeys are preordered and sold.
The cost runs about $3.50 a pound, depending on the cost of feed. Call 538-2565 or e-mail from the website, www.keeganfilionfarm.com.
The farm normally delivers turkeys to the Summerville Farmers Market the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but turkeys also may be picked up at the farm or shipped by UPS.
