Big Chef/Little chef: Louie's Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting childhood obesity, is teaming with some of Charleston's top chefs for a new event, Big Chef/Little Chef. Children will be paired with local chefs to prepare a healthy and tasty dish. Pairs will present their creations 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday in an "Iron Chef" format. Samples will be available for tasting, and guests will vote on the best dish. Beer and wine included. Chefs include Brett McKee, Oak Steakhouse; Michelle Weaver, Charleston Grill; Craig Deihl, Cypress; and Marc Collins, Circa 1886. Festival poster contest: The BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival and Charleston Magazine are calling for entries for the 2010 Festival Poster Competition. Prize is $1,000 and the title of Official Poster Artist. Winning poster will be showcased in a special insert in Charleston Magazine's December 2009 Food & Wine issue and used for official retail merchandise. Contest is open to residents of Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties who are 18 and older. Deadline for submissions is Aug. 28. Free entries; applications at www.charlestonmag.com.
