What’s that? Sharon Aydlette by September was taking orders for Thanksgiving pies from devoted fans of her cinnamon rolls, pecan pie bars and sugar cookies.
“We had to start a waiting list last year,” she says.
Aydlette studied pastry arts in New Orleans, and then took charge of the dessert program at Apolline in the city’s Garden District. When she returned to her native Charleston, she launched a bake-to-order pastry shop out of her home, aiming to “try out different flavors and even different textures.”
Who recommends it? Alexandra Purro, owner of Nano Farms
Why? “Sharon offers so many delicious cakes, rolls and breads,” Purro raves. But her allegiance to Adylette’s operation is at least partly reflective of hometown pride: “She lives here on James Island,” she emphasizes.
Where is it? Tenacious Tart accepts custom orders at 843-696-2142, but also sets up a retail stand weekly from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays at James Island’s Town Market, 871 Fort Johnson Road.
