La Fogata

What’s that? Now it’s Bohicket Marina’s newest restaurant, having just taken over the space vacated by Nacha Mama’s Taqueria. But when Mark Gray of Charleston Chocolatiers picked it as his Food Chain nominee, La Fogata existed only as a lunch truck parked at Rosebank Farms’ produce stand. “We follow them around wherever they go,” owner Azucena Mandujano’s daughter Sidney Canizales says of the nine years with Rosebank, spanning two locations.

Who recommends it? Mark Gray of Charleston Chocolatiers

Why? “No doubt in my mind, they serve the best torta I've ever eaten my life,” Gray says. “Crazy delicious.” Canizales attributes the torta’s excellence, which daily draws scores of laborers for lunch, to marinated meat and bread sourced from Beaufort. “Not that I’m biased or anything, but we’re the best food truck on the island,” Canizales says. “We’re just a little less known than the food trucks that go to breweries.”

Where is it? La Fogata’s restaurant, which serves sit-down lunch and dinner, is located at 1880 Andell Bluff Blvd. Canizales recommends La Fogata’s truck at 4475 Betsy Kerrison Parkway “for a quick lunch.”
